Andy Rourke

Andrew Rourke and Janpreet Bembey are the two Opticians at our Guildford practice.

Andrew Rourke, the resident Optometrist partner at the Guildford practice, has also worked within a hospital department providing Low Visual Aid which he has carried through to his practice.

Janpreet Bembey is the newest Optometrist to join the John Harwood team and gained her degree in Optometry from City university in 2007. Janpreet undertakes and enjoys all aspects of eyecare; eye examinations, contact lens fittings and contact lens aftercares.

Guildford is the original practice of the group, established by John Harwood in 1911. We provide a professional and personal service to all our patients. We have a Digital Retinal Camera, which allows us to offer the latest technology to our patients for the examination and complete health of their eyes.

Our full and extensive range of spectacle enables our patients to choose from designer ranges which include Ted Baker, Calvin Klein and Lulu Guinness as well as from a wide choice of quality competitively-priced frames. We also provide a full range of sunglasses, which can be made to prescription. Our frames are kept upto date by our fully trained Dispensers Claire Ellenger and Katie Duncombe, who is currently attending College to obtain her Diploma as a Dispensing Optician.

We fit all types of contact lenses and offer a fully comprehensive and continuing aftercare service.

The practice also participates in a direct referral scheme for cataract surgery in the Surrey area. In suitable cases, patients with cataracts who wish to have surgery can be referred directly to the Eye clinic at the Royal Surrey Hospital, Ashford and St Peters Hospital or Frimley Park Hospital, . This bypasses the need for the patient to see their GP and speeds up the referral process meaning a shorter waiting time for the operation. The patient’s GP is kept fully informed at all times.

We are conveniently situated at the bottom end of the High Street within easy reach of both the train and bus stations.
