Dispensing Area

We moved to our new premises on 4th January 2011 where we have almost three times as much space as before. We can now display a huge number of frames of all types including the latest designer styles such as Silhouette, Michael Kors, Ted Baker, Max Mara, Flexon, William Morris, Lulu Guinness, Nicole Miller, Elle, Calvin Klein, Fendi, Maui Jim, Hugo Boss, Jaguar and Paul Costelloe.

Our consulting rooms are more spacious and we have a dedicated room for modern instrumentation and contact lens fitting.

The Opticians and Partners based at the Woking practice are Michelle McIndoe, Charlotte Cook and Richard Broughton.

Michelle McIndoe

Michelle has previous experience as an Optometrist in hospital practice and is interested in contact lenses and the use of coloured overlays to improve reading in dyslexia.

Charlotte Cook

Charlotte Cook enjoys seeing all patients, including children. She has a special interest in fitting contact lenses to unusual corneas such as in keratoconus, corneal grafts and post laser. She also works one day a week at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the Contact Lens Clinic.

Richard Broughton

Richard Broughton, a past President of the College of Optometrists, has a special interest in diabetic eye care and is actively involved with various committees and groups dedicated to screening for diabetic eye disease in the community.

Janpreet Bembey is the newest Optician to join the John Harwood team and gained her degree in Optometry from City university in 2007. Janpreet undertakes and enjoys all aspects of eyecare; eye examinations, contact lens fittings and contact lens aftercares.

We have two Dispensing staff members at our practice, Nicholas Bateman and Safa Che Noh. Nicholas is a qualified, registered, Dispensing Optician and has over 30 years experience in optics. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectaclemakers. Nicholas has a wide knowledge of spectacle frames and lenses and can advise on those most suitable for each prescription. Safa is currently training as a Dispensing Optician and will also be happy to advise you when choosing frames and lenses. She has also been trained to teach our patients how to insert, remove and handle contact lenses.

Anypad

We are fortunate to have a specialised computer dispensing aid called Anypad to help you when choosing spectacles. The AnyPad has many features including the ability to simulate how different types of lenses will look and perform in your frames. The Anypad also enables us to photograph you in different frames so that you can compare how they look.

Digital photography is routinely used to capture images of the eyes for future reference. This has proved to be extremely useful for diagnosing and monitoring certain eye conditions, and particularly for those of our patients with diabetes.

The practice also participates in a direct referral scheme for cataract surgery, which Richard helped to establish in the Surrey Heath and Woking area. In suitable cases, patients with cataracts who wish to have surgery can be referred directly to the Eye clinic at the Royal Surrey Hospital, Ashford and St Peters Hospital, or Frimley Park Hospital. This bypasses the need for the patient to see their GP and speeds up the referral process meaning a shorter waiting time for the operation. The patient’s GP is kept fully informed at all times.
